How to create your private network on OpenStack?

Let's see how you can create your private network on OpenStack.

Create a Private Network

Step 1: Login with your username and password.

Step 2: From the left navigation, select Network and then select Networks.

Step 3: Click on Create Network.

Step 4: Enter the network details (Network Name, Availability zone Hints, MTU) under the Network tab and hit Next.

Step 5: Now, move to the Subnet section and enter subnet details (Subnet Name, Network Address, IP version, and Gateway Ip).

Step 6: Keep the default details in the Subnet Details tab and click Create.

Step 7: Upon successful creation of the private network, you will get an acknowledgment message for the same.

Create a Router

We use virtual router to connect private network to public provider network. Let's look at the below steps to do so.

Step 8: From the left navigation, select Networks under Projects and then select Routers.

Step 9: Click on Create Router.

Step 10: Enter the following Router details to proceed with creating a router:

Once you fill in the router details, click Create Router.

Step 11: Upon successful creation of the router, you will get an acknowledgment message for the same.

Connect the Router to the Private Network

Next, attach an interface to the router to link it to the private network. The network communication between the Private and External networks is enabled by completing this step.

To attach an interface to the router, perform the following steps:

Step 12: Under Routers, select the router created by you to access its details page and click on it.

Step 13: Move to the Interfaces tab.

Step 14: Click on Add Interface to attach an interface.

Step 15: Enter the following tables to complete the process of attaching an interface.

Once you fill the above details, press the Submit button.

Step 16: Upon successful creation, you will get an acknowledgment message that your interface has been added.

The interface is then attached and now listed.
